If this is your first brief visit to Wells we recommend these accessible options:

Option 1: Bishops Palace & Vicar’s Close

Start by heading for refreshments at the Bishop’s Table café.  Take in views of the Market Place, the Town Hall and Moat Walk on the way.  Soak up the vista of the Cathedral, Bishop’s Palace buildings and ruined Great Hall as you relax over a cuppa.  There is not sufficient time to explore the gardens and Palace buildings, so leave that for another visit.  Make use of the disabled toilet, before setting off to walk past the Cathedral front to marvel at Vicar’s Close.

Total cost: £0 (plus refreshments).

Option 2: Cathedral and Vicar’s Close

Enter the Market Place from the High Street and head towards the Penniless Porch (top left off the square).  Enter the Cathedral by the main visitor door to pay and collect information.  Make use of one of the disabled toilets (in Cloisters and by Café entrance) and explore the Cathedral. Take refreshments in the Loft café (accessible by lift).  Exit and turn right to Cathedral Green and head towards Vicar’s Close, stopping to admire the West face and ancient clock face on the way.

Total cost: £ Cathedral entry (plus refreshments.)

We have asked the Cathedral to reduce the price of Cathedral entry for mobility aid users, as a significant number of the treasures can only be explored by able-bodied people.
